Slow
food san francisco's golden glass wine event coming
this june
Top Italian indigenous
& regional wines complemented by gastronomic
delights
from leading Bay Area restaurateurs and food producers
San
Francisco, CA, April 26, 2006? Slow Food
San Francisco is pleased to announce the third
annual GOLDEN GLASS wine event will take place
in San Francisco on June 10, 2006 at Fort Mason.
Following the success of the past two years, this
lively gastronomic and educational event will
once again bring a line-up of Italy's most talked
about wines to the Bay Area's press, trade, Slow
Food members, and general public. The GOLDEN GLASS,
a fundraiser for Slow Food USA, is organized by
Slow Food San Francisco, under the direction of
Lorenzo Scarpone, convivium leader and founder.
In keeping with the Slow Food movement's goals
of encouraging biodiversity and the continuity
of local traditions and products, the 2006 GOLDEN
GLASS event will highlight Italian wine producers
who strive to protect, nurture and revive the
indigenous and classic Italian varieties. The
wine tasting will feature a number of these rare,
indigenous varieties, alongside emerging newcomers
and familiar favorites, from distinct regions
all across Italy.
Slow Food SF has again invited local Californian
and Italian artisanal producers to complement
the wines with savory culinary delights and sweet
treats. Participating restaurants and producers
for this year's event will include, Chez Panisse,
A16, La Ciccia, Quince, Harley Farms, Bodega Goat
Farms, Consorzio Grana Padana, Pasticceria Rulli,
Guittard Fine Chocolates, Gelato Massimo, and
many, many more.
The Honorary Chairman of this year's event is
Gene Burns, the host of Dining Around with Gene
Burns on KGO Newstalk AM 810.
In addition to the main Golden Glass tasting,
Slow Food SF will also host the following activities:
Round table discussion The Direction
of Italian Wine in the USA
Wine tasting seminar The Emerging
DOCG Wines of Southern Italy.
Silent wine auction featuring
rare Italian magnums and other sought-after wines.
Proceeds will benefit the Alice Waters' Edible
Schoolyard Foundation and the National Arthritis
Foundation.
Slow Food SF raffle offering
the chance at a Slow Food organized trip for 2
to Italy.
Wine dinner at Quince Restaurant.
Intimate gathering celebrating Italian regionality
and terroir.
